SVH Specialty Care

SVH Specialty Care provides the residents of our community easy access to specialists who see patients at our Outpatient Center (at the hospital) or at our offices in Detroit. To see a specialist, please ask your primary care provider for a referral.

Cardiology

Cardiology is the branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the heart and blood vessels. The field is commonly divided in the branches of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart disease and electrophysiology. Physicians specializing in this field of medicine are called cardiologists.

At SVH Specialty Care, our cardiology team sees patients with atherosclerosis, restenosis, coronary heart disease (ischemic heart disease, coronary artery disease, etc.), acute coronary syndrome, angina, or have encountered a myocardial infarction (or heart attack). Some of our patients who have experienced a heart attack or have had heart surgery are referred to our Rehabilitation Services department where they meet regularly with a cardiac rehabilitation nurse to slowly and healthfully strengthen their heart muscles so that they can resume life in the most healthy way possible – and perhaps avoid heart problems in the future.

Gynecology

Gynecology literally means "the science of women," but in medicine this is the specialty of diseases of the female reproductive system (uterus, vagina and ovaries). Almost all modern gynecologists are also obstetricians.

At SVH Specialty Care, our gynecology team sees and treat patients with cancer of the reproductive organs (including ovaries, tubes, uterus, vagina, and vulva), incontinence, amenorrhoea (absent periods), dysmenorrhoea (painful periods), infertility, menorrhagia (heavy periods), and many other conditions. Our team also performs well-woman physicals and can perform various surgical procedures like hysterectomies and prolapse of pelvic organs.

Neurology

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Physicians specializing in the field of neurology are called neurologists and are trained to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with neurological disorders. Most neurologists are trained to treat and diagnose adults.

At SVH Specialty Care, our neurologist performs evaluations, disease management, and EMGs.

At SVH Specialty Care, our obstetrics team treats patients with reproductive concerns, well-woman physicals, cancer diagnosis and treatment, and surgical procedures.

Ophthalmology

At SVH Specialty Care, we perform surgeries and surgical procedures to treat and correct eye conditions like cataracts and vision correction procedures, to name a few.

Orthopedic Services

Orthopedics is the field of medicine and surgery that treats injuries and other disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

At SVH Specialty Care, our podiatry team diagnoses, performs surgery for disorders of the foot, ankle and leg, and performs various nail care procedures.

Pulmonary Medicine

Pulmonary medicine treats diseases and conditions of the heart and circulation system. At SVH Specialty Care, our pulmonary team treats patients with heart disease (like high cholesterol levels or high blood pressure) and patients with sleep disorders (like sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome). Patients with sleep disorders are diagnosed using a sleep study at our Sleep Study Center located adjacent to SVH.

Surgery

Surgery treats diseases or injuries by operative manual and instrumental treatment. The surgeons at SVH are board-certified physicians who specialize in surgery.

At SVH Specialty Care, our surgical team performs several types of surgical and endoscopic procedures.

At Sebasticook Valley Hospital’s Eastern Maine Urology Associates, our urology team treats adults with urological conditions or diseases.
